I had a really good thing to send out on Sunday.
Like, super good!
I was locked out of my computer all weekend.
And when I got back in, my computer didn’t save it.
Turns out when a computer goes to sleep, it’s still on.
And when you close the screen, that doesn’t turn it off either.
I’d had my computer on for over a month straight.
And everything that was autosaving every keystroke…was autosaving to files that would be deleted if i ever turned the computer off for realsies.
This is not how “autosaving” is supposed to work, I know.
But I grew up in an era where you were told to save every five minutes, and saving was a two-minute-long procedure with a lot of ka-THUNK noises from literal pieces of magnetic film in between floppy protective pieces of plastic.
So I’m uses to feeling personal shame and guilt when a file doesn’t save. the same shame when there’s no recycling can around and you have to put a plastic bottle int he garbage. An act that feels no different than clubbing a baby seal. Everything bad that ever happens to the environment from now on? My fault, for not carrying that bottle around until I found a recycling bin.
I’ll probably feel up to rewriting the newsletter thing in a week or two, maybe just in a day or two.
